"Harvest" is my first portrait of my mother, a woman who I admire for her strength and her compassion. Employing a primary color palette, I created the background without reference, drawing inspiration from the fields near my North Carolina home and in the Tuscan countryside, plus cypress trees reminiscent of Van Gogh. The fields themselves are symbolic of motherhood, a spirit that my mother has, the spirit of her selflessness profusely given to us and to others.
