ABOUT
Sarah Frisbie is a 21-year old artist, independent curator, and researcher, studying art, art history, and global studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Having only worked in dry media for much of her childhood, she first picked up a paintbrush in eighth grade on the sudden, instinctive conviction that she was a painter. Since then, she has concentrated in acrylic and oil painting, along with several curated exhibitions, works of sculpture and performance.
Her painted work explores the human face to find connection between the artist/performer, art, and viewer, and to understand this connection as it relates to her religious and temporal positionality. Her paintings have garnered dozens of awards, including a Scholastic National Silver Award and 10 Gold Keys (2015-19), billboard representation for the ArtPOP contest (2019), and first place in the Allegacy FCU Artizens contest.

She served as curator-in-chief of the UNC Studio Art Majors' Association for the 2021 season and co-curator for 2022. Through this position, she was instrumental in rebuilding the only student-run gallery on campus after COVID, and has curated multiple exhibitions for the space. Her curatorial practice considers artists of all media that connect ideas across time and place, incorporating group shows and retrospectives with a particular interest in installation and relational aesthetics.
